The reason Ruby Rose left Batwoman has been revealed – Bam! Smack! Pow!

Ruby Rose’s departure from Batwoman shook the internet to its core, but new details have emerged as to why she parted ways with The CW show.

At a time when TV news is relatively sparse given everything that’s happening in the world, it’s safe to say we were all a little bit floored by the unexpected revelation that Ruby Rose would be departing Batwoman. While it’s not unheard of for actors to leave their respective TV shows from time-to-time, this one is made that much more jaw-dropping by the fact that she actually plays Batwoman herself – real name Kate Kane.

The show just recently completed airing its first season – which wrapped two episodes short of the 22-episode season order due to the pandemic – and fans were excited about the prospect of the second season, which we now know will include a crossover with new Arrowverse series Superman & Lois. So yes, it certainly came as a shock.

While both Rose herself and Warner Bros. released statements acknowledging the departure and thanking each other for making it happen, there was still a lot of uncertainty as to what actually happened behind-the-scenes to cause such a monumental shock. However, it seems that TVLine is able to shed a little light on the matter. According to a source close to the show:

“It wasn’t 100-percent her decision… It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”

The report also suggests that the long hours that come with playing the lead in a TV show, the 22-episode count and the 10 months in Vancouver (where all of the Arrowverse shows – and most of The CW’s programming – film) just weren’t working for her.

It’s certainly upsetting news that Rose felt like she had to leave – especially when she was so moved when she first obtained the role – but alas, Batwoman will continue when its second season airs in January 2021 with a new actress donning the iconic red wig.
